want to keep your kids occupied for a while? get a some funnels, cups, and water - they love it! we did this last night as we were getting dinner ready and it was great! and as an added bonus, i had them wipe up all the water that spilled on the floor and now it looks pretty clean! i think i'll count that as mopping for this week, lol!
other recent things that have surprised me by keeping their attention for a while (let's say more than 20 minutes) - 1. a hand mirror - estin needed one for some science experiments at school the other day. all i had was a tiny pocket/makeup mirror that i got as a freebie once (note - when you buy handmade, it's pretty common practice to get freebies in your package! isn't that cool? can't say target or gap hands out free stuff when you check out. although ... the other day at new frontiers, our natural grocery store, we walked out with a free loaf of bread because it was squished and they couldn't sell it ... anyway, i digress...). so when i gave him the tiny mirror, he looked so disappointed! it was clearly not what he had in mind for a hand mirror. so i went out to get one. unfortunately, safeway only had one and it was made in china but i couldn't disappoint my boy so i got it. it has a mirror on both sides, one with higher magnification. it's the coolest, he loves just staring at himself and flipping it over and over, lol.
and 2! - playdough! i bought some playdough waaay back when i was still preggers with curran to have some fun stuff on hand to keep the boys occupied when i was in labor. didn't end up using it because they were asleep during all the excitement. so fast forward to now, they played with it recently and i am not exaggerating here, estin played with playdough for almost 2 hours straight. i could hardly believe it. we're going to try making our own tomorrow, i'll let you know how it goes...
